Эта работа представляет собой довольно редкий даже для искусства России XVIII столетия тип живописной аллегории. В ней прославляются деяния императрицы Елизаветы Петровны, медальон с профильным портретом которой держит в руках античная богиня мудрости Минерва. Справа вверху изображен Геркулес с палицей в руке, что служит намеком на воинские победы России в Семилетней войне, которую она вела с 1756 по 1763 годы. Муза истории Клио вписывает в книгу, лежащую на спине Сатурна (или Кроноса, олицетворяющего время), новое великое деяние государыни – основание Императорской Академии трех знатнейших художеств. Фигурки путти с атрибутами трех искусств (палитра, кирпич и скульптурная голова) олицетворяют живопись, архитектуру и скульптуру, а младенец с огнем во лбу – юного гения российских искусств.

A view of the British attack on Roseau, 6 June 1761. Seven Years War (1756-63). The British combined operations expedition to Dominica in June 1761 was led by Col. Andrew Rollo, 5th Lord Rollo (1703-65; Brigadier-General in America) who was in command of the troops, and Commodore Sir James Douglas (1703-87; later Admiral Sir James Douglas), Commander-in-Chief at the leeward Islands, in command of four ships of the line and two frigates. The arrival of the British forces at Roseau on 6 June is shown in this view, with the two frigates in the foreground. The Montague, Sutherland, Belliqueux and Douglas's flag ship the Dublin on the right. The smoke from the firing from the French batteries can be seen on the hillside above Roseau, together with a line of soldiers marching up the hill, with the French encampments to the right.

French Fire-Ships Attacking the English Fleet off Quebec, 28 June 1759. An incident during the Seven Years War, 1756–1763, between France and Britain. 1759 was a year of victories for Britain and on 26 June Admiral Sir Charles Saunders' powerful fleet, which had conveyed Major-General James Wolfe's land forces to Canada, anchored off the Ile d'Orleans on the St Lawrence River, below Quebec. At midnight on 28 June the French attacked with seven fire-ships and two fire-rafts. National Maritime Museum (Greenwich Hospital Collection). Measurements : 91.4 x 152.4 cm.
