On drab, desolate Eniwetok, the 10th Defense Battalion test fires a 155mm gun out across an empty ocean. Despite the lack of threat of any immediate enemy attack, the weapon was camouflaged just in case Japanese planes flew over.

An aging M1918 155mm gun, manned by the 5th Defense Battalion, stands guard over the Pacific surf from amid the beach-front palms at Funafuti in the Ellice Islands, the first stop in the Pacific following the unit's departure from Iceland.

In Japan, assigned a Houkoku Gou (Navy Patriotic Presentation Number) indicating it was paid for by a Japanese civilian volunteer group and designated Houkoku Gou 872 (Patriotic Presentation Number 872) in black on both sides of the rear fuselage. Afterwards, dissembled and shipped to the South Pacific and reassembled.

Meant to explain the strategic importance of Alaska in the current war (World War II), air routes from Anchorage are illustrated to several cities. The bottom map is a specific map of Alaska.Several text boxes inform about the importance of Alaska. A text box, entitled, 'The Strategy of Alaska is Based on Modern Aviation' discusses the concept of the 'great circle' routes in aviation and that arctic air travel routes are shorter due to the 'tight, sharp curves of the earth' closer to the pole. A small inset map superimposes Alaska over the continental United States, providing an idea of the relative size of the state versus the continental U.S.

The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Leutze (DD-481) showing damage suffered after coming the assistance of USS Newcomb (DD-586) off Okinawa on 6 April 1945. A kamikaze glanced off Newcomb and exploded in the narrow space between the two ships.
