Orwellian revision of history in Texas classrooms

In his book, Nineteen Eighty-Four, George Orwell described a corrupt government which didn’t approve of its actual history, so they changed it to one which would made it easier to manipulate the populace. Religious extremists on the Texas State Board of Education now seek to do the same thing, -after having already vandalized the studies of science and health- in the name of censorship and propaganda, and in the hope that all the other states bow to the whim to Texas fundamentalists. Don’t. It’s time to fix this broken system. It’s time to revise the system such that uneducated and unqualified political ideologues no longer oppose all the experts in every field of study we need to teach. Please review the Texas Freedom Network’s campaign to de-politicize the classroom, to ‘just educate’ our students. www.tfn.org

State historical blindness/revisionism was classical before the 90’s : Colonisation for France & GB, amerindiens for USA, Aboriginal in Australia, palestinians exodus for Israel, war crimes for japanese and russians, slaves trade for arabians, europeans, americans & africans civilizations … etc ad nauseam.
Today revisionism has become the tool of choice for communautarism : afro centrism, judeo centrism, asio centrism, islamo centrism, christiano centrism … wathever you want …centrism !
I’ll just have my son be homeschooled with Wikipedia.

I know Texas forms a large part of the market for textbooks, but surely the rest of the US combined form a larger market. If they simply refuse to buy the textbooks then surely the publishers will have to cater to the needs of the market and provide books that the majority will buy.
I’m dumbfounded that they could remove Thomas Jefferson!
Erasing information is never the right choice.
Haha! They all sound like George Bush. This is so FUCKED.
Wonderful….(sob)
Thanks to our lovely Texas board, we now know that Joseph McCarthy wasn’t such a bad guy after all. I’m looking forward to reading how Jerry Fallwell and good ‘ol Newt are working to return America to the christian utopia it once was before we godless heathens introduced our satanic evolutionist agenda.
I’m just surprised they didn’t strike the “Trail of Tears” and rename it “The Cherokee Pilgramage.” Or did they?
@CalicoVall
Then I agree it could be a great idea. :D
But one question remain: are you should you would sit on THAT bomb?
You would miss the entire party then :P
@TheOmegadusk Well, we all do it. Especially when we see things going this badly. *nods*
@jimalbi Ok then, let’s combine our ideas.
I re-enact that scene from Dr. Strangelove over the world’s largest evangelical convention that’s being covered by the entire Faux (Pas) News Team (c) . ^_^
@CalicoVall Excuse me Cal, I was reactionary there too.
@CalicoVall
lol!
Not so sure it would be such a waste…
I had this idea of a huge evangelical convention in the middle of nowhere…
And why not cover it with Fucks News and Glenn Beck?
@jimalbi no, that’s a waste of a perfectly good nuke. ^_^ A better use would be to give it to me and I’d re-enact that scene from Doctor Strangelove. XP
@TheOmegadusk NO, I just don’t like black people who are voted in to fill in the ‘minority spot’ a.k.a. black person for black people, white people for white etc. (BTW, I applaud that one woman who brought up the achievements of Latin people. ^^) If you read the rest of my comment, I went ape-shit over that one guy when he suggested that we ’stand up to the experts’. So, I’ve never been in favor of revision of any kind unless there is sufficient evidence indicating it does need to be.
@CalicoVall Awww, don’t like black people Calico? Do they talk funny or insist on maintaining a proper view of the last 200 years? Those are great reasons to dismiss someone if you wish to talk fast and teach lies. Also you are welcome to try and get on that board, but I seriously hope you don’t. We have enough dominionist, revisionist, crap going through there as it is.
Texas should be nuked.
@barcelionano
They know about the same amount that crackers and other honkys do.
Dentist? Well, everyone needs those.
Cheerleader? Well, I can live with that.
Christian fundamentalist? STOP FUCKING UP THE LIVES OF CHILDREN.
WHAT THE HELL DO NIGGERS KNOW ABOUT TEXAS??
What I remember from my public school history textbooks: In 1492 Spanish Conquistador pilgrims landed on the Teapot Dome, traded beads with the natives and signed a treaty with president Lincoln.
However, the fact that most Americans have no interest in their history doesn’t excuse religious wingnuts from trying to rewrite it.
If I had children going to school, I would strongly advise them that History class is now nothing more than a distorted mythology, and teach them facts after school in the evenings…
how long till there charging people with thought crime
Well i guess stuff like the inquisition won’t make it into texas history textbooks:)
